SONSIK Presidency

Overview

As President of the 19th Executive Committee, I coordinated a nationwide volunteer team across South Korea and Nepal. The term delivered scholarships to hundreds of students in Nepal, more than thirty cultural and representational programmes, a series of student-safety and career webinars, and the revival of the organisation’s journal and annual souvenir magazine (Smarika).

Scholarships & education in Nepal

SONSIK ran a rolling scholarship drive through local committees, distributing support to students in five districts and provinces during the term.

• Fundraising campaign for the Dream 100 education organisation.
• 9th SONSIK Educational Seminar, Daegu — graduate study, funding and research guidance for students.
• Beginner Python programming course for members, run online over two days.

Culture & representation

Student support & advocacy

• GKS Scholarship webinar — “Unlock your potential: a guide to applying for the GKS Scholarship”.
• CV writing session — practical tips and review for students and job seekers.
• Voice-phishing awareness — a session on scams targeting foreign residents in South Korea.
• Study in Korea interview — a public conversation on opportunities for Nepalese students.
• Represented Nepalese students at NIIED planning meetings and the 2023 NIIED Students’ Day.

Community, fundraising & governance

• Coordinated emergency fundraising for the medical treatment of a community member, Niruta Mahat.
• Published a transparent financial statement in memory of the late Rajesh Pandey.
• Structured interaction programmes with NRNA Korea and with SONSIK seniors and alumni.
• 8th SONSIK Sports Meet, Jeonju.
• Convened the 20th Annual General Meeting in Gyeongsan and handed over to the incoming committee.
• SONSIK recognised by Daejeon Metropolitan City during the term.

Publications

A priority of the term was restarting SONSIK’s publications so that scholarship reports, member writing and community records had a permanent home.
